Auto Transport & Vehicle Shipping

You booked the long-distance move. The crew is scheduled. Then you realize nobody mentioned the car. Driving it yourself means adding days of highway time, hotel stops, and 1,500 miles of wear on a vehicle you just finished paying off. Shipping it separately means finding a second company you trust with a $30,000 asset.

Safebound Moving & Storage coordinates auto transport and vehicle shipping alongside your household move, so one company manages both. Based in West Palm Beach, Safebound arranges vehicle transport through certified carriers rated for safety across all 50 states. Call 561-510-7191 or get a free vehicle shipping quote to add auto transport to your move.

How Auto Transport Works With Your Move

Safebound schedules your vehicle pickup to align with your household moving date. Your car, truck, motorcycle, or SUV gets picked up from your current address and delivered to your destination on a timeline coordinated with your furniture delivery. One point of contact handles both shipments.

The process works in four steps. First, Safebound takes your vehicle details: year, make, model, running condition, and any modifications. Second, you choose between open or enclosed carrier. Third, a certified carrier picks up the vehicle with a documented condition report signed by both parties. Fourth, the carrier delivers to your destination and you verify the condition report at drop-off.

Safebound Moving & Storage (USDOT 2900155) has coordinated vehicle transport as part of 35,000+ moves since 2016. Every shipment includes carrier insurance and a written transport agreement before pickup day.

Open vs. Enclosed Auto Transport

Open carriers move your vehicle on a multi-car trailer exposed to weather and road debris. This is the standard option. Roughly 85% of vehicles ship open. It costs less because the carrier transports 7 to 10 vehicles per load.

Enclosed carriers use a covered trailer that protects against rain, dust, gravel, and sun exposure. This option costs 30% to 50% more than open transport. It makes sense for vehicles worth over $50,000, classic cars, convertibles, and anything with a custom paint job you don't want exposed to 1,000 miles of highway grit.

Not sure which option fits? Call 561-510-7191 and describe your vehicle. Safebound's coordinators will recommend the right carrier type based on vehicle value, route distance, and season.

Auto Transport Pricing and Timelines

Vehicle shipping rates depend on distance, vehicle size, carrier type, and seasonal demand. Florida routes run higher from May through September when snowbird returns and summer relocations peak.

Typical ranges for standard sedan transport from Florida:

These are estimate ranges. Your exact quote depends on vehicle dimensions, size class, and pickup/delivery locations. SUVs and trucks cost more than sedans. Rural pickup or delivery adds cost over metro-to-metro routes. Request your vehicle shipping quote here for an exact price.

Safebound's Household Moving Rates

What Vehicles Can Be Shipped?

Safebound coordinates transport for standard cars, SUVs, trucks, motorcycles, and specialty vehicles. Oversized vehicles like lifted trucks, RVs, and boats require specialized carriers and are quoted individually.

Non-running vehicles can ship, but they cost more because the carrier needs a winch or forklift for loading. Let Safebound know the vehicle's condition during the initial quote so the carrier arrives with the right equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to ship a car from Florida?

Shipping a standard sedan from Florida to the Northeast typically costs $800 to $1,200 on an open carrier and $1,200 to $1,800 enclosed. Cross-country routes to California or Washington run $1,100 to $1,600 open and $1,600 to $2,400 enclosed. Your exact price depends on vehicle size, carrier type, and pickup/delivery locations. Call Safebound at 561-510-7191 for a quote based on your specific route.

Is open or enclosed auto transport better?

Open transport works for most vehicles and costs 30% to 50% less than enclosed. Enclosed carriers make sense for cars worth over $50,000, classics, convertibles, and vehicles with custom paint. About 85% of vehicles ship on open carriers without damage. Safebound's coordinators recommend the right option based on your vehicle's value and the route distance.

How long does auto transport take from Florida?

Transit times depend on distance. Florida to the Northeast takes 3 to 5 days. Midwest routes take 4 to 6 days. West Coast delivery runs 7 to 10 days. Within Florida, expect 1 to 3 days. These are carrier transit times after pickup. Safebound coordinates pickup dates to align with your household moving schedule so both arrive within the same window.

Can I ship a non-running vehicle?

Non-running vehicles can be transported, but they require winch or forklift loading at pickup, which adds to the cost. Tell Safebound your vehicle's condition during the initial quote call at 561-510-7191 so the carrier arrives with the correct equipment. The condition gets documented in the transport agreement before loading.

What does Safebound's auto transport service include?

Safebound coordinates the full vehicle shipping process: carrier selection, pickup scheduling aligned with your move date, pre-transport condition documentation, carrier insurance coverage, and delivery confirmation. You get one point of contact managing both your household move and vehicle transport instead of coordinating two separate companies. Safebound has managed vehicle logistics as part of 35,000+ relocations since 2016.

How do I prepare my car for auto transport?

Remove all personal items from the vehicle — carriers are insured for the car, not its contents. Leave about a quarter tank of gas for loading and unloading. Disable any aftermarket alarms that could drain the battery in transit. Note existing damage with photos before pickup. The carrier and you will complete a joint condition inspection report at both pickup and delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Don't let unanswered questions hold you back. Let's extinguish those burning questions!

Is my move price guaranteed?

In many cases, yes. Your move price can be guaranteed if your estimate is based on accurate information and the services do not change. Safebound Moving & Storage offers flat-rate and binding estimates designed to give you a clear, predictable cost for your move so you know what to expect before moving day.

A guaranteed price depends on the details provided during the quoting process, including the inventory list, pickup and delivery locations, access conditions, and any additional services such as packing or storage. When this information is correct and the scope of the move stays the same, the price listed on your estimate will not change.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Safebound Moving & Storage is fully licensed and insured to perform both local and long-distance moving services. We operate in compliance with state and federal regulations, including registration with the U.S. Department of Transportation for interstate moves. Our licensing allows us to legally transport household goods across state lines and ensures we meet the required safety, insurance, and operating standards for professional moving companies.

In addition to our licensing, we carry the proper insurance coverage to protect your belongings while they are in our care. All moves include basic valuation coverage as required by law, and we also offer additional coverage options for customers who want extra protection for high-value items. Our team will explain these options during the estimate so you can choose the level of protection that best fits your move.

Being licensed and insured is one of the most important things to verify when hiring a moving company, especially for long-distance relocations. Working with a properly registered carrier helps ensure accountability, transparent pricing, and professional handling of your shipment from pickup through delivery.

What services are included in my flat fee?

Our flat-rate pricing is designed to give you a clear, all-inclusive cost for your move with no surprises on moving day. When you receive a flat-fee quote from Safebound Moving & Storage, it is based on the inventory, distance, and services discussed during your estimate, and it includes the labor, transportation, and standard moving materials needed to complete your move.

In most cases, the flat fee includes loading and unloading, transportation, basic furniture protection with padded moving blankets and shrink wrap, disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture, and placement of items in your new home according to your instructions. We also include fuel, mileage, and the use of our moving truck and equipment, so you do not have to worry about hidden charges being added later.

If packing services are included in your quote, the flat fee will also cover the agreed-upon packing labor and materials. If storage is part of the move, the estimate will outline the storage period and any applicable fees in advance so you know exactly what is included.

Because every move is different, your flat fee only covers the services listed on your estimate. Additional items, extra packing, long carries, shuttle service, or changes to the inventory may affect the final price, which is why we take time during the quoting process to make sure your estimate is as accurate as possible. Our goal is to provide straightforward pricing so you know exactly what to expect before your move begins.

Do you handle fragile or valuable items?

Yes. Safebound Moving & Storage has extensive experience handling fragile, high-value, and specialty items, and we take extra precautions to ensure they are packed, transported, and delivered safely. Our crews are trained to properly protect delicate belongings such as glassware, artwork, antiques, mirrors, electronics, marble, sculptures, and other items that require careful handling.

We use professional packing materials including padded moving blankets, shrink wrap, custom boxes, and specialty cartons designed for dishes, TVs, artwork, and other sensitive items. When needed, we can also provide custom crating for especially valuable or oversized pieces to give them additional protection during transport.

For customers with high-value furniture or designer pieces, our team follows detailed packing and loading procedures to prevent damage during both local and long-distance moves. Each item is carefully wrapped, labeled, and secured in the truck to minimize shifting while in transit.

If you have items that you are particularly concerned about, we recommend letting us know in advance so we can plan the proper materials, crew size, and equipment for your move. Our goal is to make sure every item — from everyday household goods to your most valuable possessions — arrives in the same condition it left.

Do you offer long-distance moving?

Yes, Safebound Moving & Storage provides professional long-distance moving services throughout Florida and across the United States. Whether you are relocating to a neighboring state or moving across the country, our team is equipped to handle every aspect of your move from start to finish.

Long-distance moves require careful planning, accurate scheduling, and experienced crews. We coordinate packing, loading, transportation, storage (if needed), and delivery to ensure your belongings arrive safely and on time. Our team works with you to create a clear moving plan so you know what to expect at every step of the process.

We regularly handle moves between Florida and major destinations such as Georgia, Texas, the Carolinas, the Northeast, and the Midwest, as well as cross-country relocations. Our trucks, equipment, and trained movers are prepared for both small apartment moves and large household relocations. If you need temporary storage during your long-distance move, we also offer secure, climate-controlled storage at our facility until you are ready for delivery.

When you request a quote, we will review the distance, inventory, timeline, and any special requirements to provide an accurate estimate and a realistic delivery window. Our goal is to make your long-distance move as smooth, organized, and stress-free as possible.
